This was a new style of cake for me, as usually I model or make items to go onto cakes. However in this case the customer felt that because Lola of 'Charlie and Lola' is a 2-dimensional drawn character, that she wanted this reflected in the cake. The cake is carved from a 10" x 12" slab of maderia, and I then used a layering method to build up Lola, putting the pieces of sugarpaste together to form the character. I was really pleased with the result :)
10"x12" maderia cake, sandwiched with strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream, carved and coated in white sugarpaste and then placed on a large 14" square board. The cake board was coated with white sugarpaste and edged with an ivory ribbon, and then decorated with butterflies and flowers.
