Tropical Island

This was a cake I made for a 40th Birthday. It was commissioned by the wife who said it was her husband's dream to spend his 40th birthday on a tropical island! Since that wasn't possible, she wanted me to make him the next best thing. Everything that is on the island was requested - a newspaper, an Ipod, a football, sweetie wrappers, a widescreen TV, a cricket bat and ball, and his team football scarf to make it his dream birthday!
I painted the sea with metallic powder colour, and added all kinds of painted sea creatures. The waves in the sea and the beach were piped in white royal icing.



This was a 10" chocolate cake, sandwiched with chocolate buttercream, covered in sugarpaste, presented on a large circular cake board covered in lemon sugarpaste, with a turquiose royal iced 'Happy Birthday' message. To continue the 'sea' theme the edge of the coated board was crimped and royal iced as waves.
